June Pack Event: Pack Members Teach Us So Much

June's Pack Appreciation Event is a unique opportunity to understand our Pack Members' crucial role in our study. It's not just about commitment; it's about investing in the future of science and the well-being of dogs. Pack Members continued participation is a significant contribution to our collective effort to unravel the mysteries of aging, leading to healthier, longer lives for dogs and humans. Don't miss this chance to learn more about our study.

March Pack Event: Measurement & Mobility Activities

Our team has designed a set of activities called the Measurement & Mobility Activities that are designed to collect information about how the activity levels of dogs change with age and health status. Beginning in April, all Pack members will begin receiving invitations to complete these activities with their dogs.

We want to give everyone an early introduction to the Measurement & Mobility Activities, so watch this month's Pack event and learn more about these activities.

2022 Pack EVents

October Pack Event: Peek inside our Annual Meeting

In September, the Dog Aging Project team met at the University of Washington in Seattle for our first in-person, all-team meeting in three years! Our growth over that time has been extraordinary. The annual meeting was an opportunity for us to reconnect with our colleagues, celebrate our accomplishments, share scientific progress, and plan for the future. After all the hard work our team has been putting in, it was great to share these milestones with one another.

Summer Pack Event: All about the Annual Follow-Up

The majority of our Pack members celebrate their Pack Anniversary Day in the fall. That's when we ask participants to complete their Annual Follow-Up Survey. Join our team to learn all about the Annual Follow-Up, the kinds of data we collect annually, and how we integrate that with veterinary electronic medical records.

June Pack Event: Measuring Change

The Dog Aging Project tracks changes in your dog's condition mainly through surveys that you complete at home. We developed a set of at-home activities that will allow our researchers to go further and track the subtle physical changes that take place as dogs age. We can get a sense of mobility changes through a brief series of measurements along with timed jogging, running, and stair climbs. We call these activities the Measurement & Mobility Activities and around 1500 Pack members are now being invited to complete them. We hope to have the entire Pack join us in these activities next year.

May Pack Event: Dog Mobility

One of the most fascinating things about studying dogs is the incredible variety among our canine companions. From dachshunds to wolfhounds, dogs come in all shapes and sizes. Some are elite athletes, and others are snuggle buddies. Some love to swim, and others are not interested in getting their feet wet. Our research team is very interested in studying how physical activity and mobility are related to dog morphology (their shape and size), and how these characteristics influence the physical aging we observe in dogs. In the coming months, we’ll be launching a set of activities designed to help get at some of these scientific questions.

April Pack Event: Canine Cognition

Ever wondered what your dog is thinking about? Dogs are great communicators even if they can’t use words. Even though we’re often in sync with our dogs, they experience the world far differently than we do. Canine cognition expert, Dr. Evan MacLean, will be joining us for an in-depth conversation about the research we’re conducting in this area.

March Pack Event: Project Update with Dr Promislow

You may have seen that the Dog Aging Project reached a big milestone with our publication in the journal Nature -- if not, check that out now! https://dogagingproject.org/dog-aging... We'll be using that scientific manuscript as a jumping off point to revisit our research goals and methods and how you can help. We'll be joined this month by the Dog Aging Project's co-founder, Dr Daniel Promislow, for a project update. Whether you've been with us from the start or just joined recently, this session should have some new and interesting information!

February Pack Event: Avalanche Dogs!

Tune in for an update on what the Dog Aging Project team has been working on! Plus, a look at how avalanche rescue dogs are trained.

We'll also talk about why it's a big deal that the Dog Aging Project was introduced to the global scientific community in the pages of Nature last month. Read a summary of the paper and access the full manuscript here: https://dogagingproject.org/dog-aging-project-data-a-resource-for-scientists-worldwide
